MOSCO EXIT SUB®

overview

The MOSCO Exit Sub® is an Electro-Mechanical Wireline Device that provides controlled separation of the Rope Socket from the rest of the Wireline Toolstring via a pre-defined set of operational conditions.

It is designed as a wireline recovery method when the Wireline Toolstring becomes stuck in hole during operations.

The MOSCO Exit Sub® controllably separates into upper and lower sections allowing the wireline, rope socket and upper section of the MOSCO Exit Sub® to be retrieved to surface. This is achieved without the operator having to rely on hydrostatic pressures, telemetry or dropping a deployment bar. An industry standard external fish neck on the lower section of the MOSCO Exit Sub® can then be used for fishing operations to recover the remainder of the tool-string.

what are the advantages?

risk reduction

Reduces the risk of having to deploy wire cutting devices.

cost reduction

Reduces the potential for costly, time consuming and complicated fishing operations

safety

Mitigates potential for the dangerous situation of having a tool string permanently stuck across multiple critical well barriers.

MOSCO EXIT SUB®

safe, cost efficient, less risk

RELEASE CONDITIONS & PROGRAMME SEQUENCE

Under normal operating conditions the upper and lower sections of the MOSCO Exit Sub® remain securely locked together by the locking mechanism. When the MOSCO Exit Sub® experiences the conditions required for disconnecting to occur (eg: the tool-string being stuck and stationary in the well for a given time) the tool starts its releasing programme sequence. An internal electrical actuator shifts the disconnect mechanism releasing locking segments and allowing the upper and lower sections of the MOSCO Exit Sub® to separate. The upper section can then be retrieved to surface. The lower section is left in the well with an industry standard fishing neck looking up. The MOSCO Exit Sub® should be in neutral or compression when the tool is activated to prevent a sudden release of stored energy in the wireline or damage to the tool.

SIZES & PRESSURE RATING

The MOSCO Exit Sub® is available in 17/8", 21/8" and 21/2" OD configurations with a choice of proprietary or sucker rod connections. They are suitable for service in well pressures up to 15,000psi.

MAINTENANCE

The MOSCO Exit Sub® is designed as a "plug & play" tool so there is no need for any remedial or service work to be carried out on the electrical sub-assembly (the top half of the tool) in the field. The electrical section should only be serviced by MOSCO or a recognised MOSCO Agent. The MOSCO Exit Sub® mechanical section (the lower half of the tool) must be stripped and thoroughly cleaned after each intervention campaign to prevent the build-up of deposits which could interfere with the operation of the tool. Thorough cleaning is particularly important when the tool has been used in a corrosive environment.

ADDITIONAL APPLICATIONS & ADVANTAGES

The MOSCO Exit Sub® unique design features may also be used for other operations where it is desired to disconnect from a down-hole tool or device. The MOSCO Exit Sub® has an integral swivel in the wireline toolstring which removes the need for a separate swivel.
